READING LAB at PONNY KIDS
Deep Understanding as the Foundation of Learning and Life
Reading at PONNY KIDS is not about letters.
It is about understanding.
In the READING LAB, children do not develop reading technique, but the ability to listen, concentrate, and think deeply. They build a relationship with books and with learning itself.
We develop:
📖 understanding of meaning
🎧 concentration and listening
🧠 deep thinking
❤ empathy and emotional intelligence
Why Is Working with Stories So Important Already in Preschool?
The ability to read with comprehension does not begin with letters. It begins with the ability to listen, follow a story, and understand connections. Research consistently confirms that children who develop a relationship with books at an early age have better attention, memory, and learning ability.
At PONNY KIDS, we therefore work with books as a tool for developing thinking, not as curriculum content.
What Do We Do Differently from Traditional Kindergartens?
In many kindergartens, reading is a short activity or a reward.
At PONNY KIDS, we:
- read slowly and consciously
- allow space for silence and imagination
- ask open-ended questions
- connect stories with the child’s real life
Children are not tested.
They are guided to think.
What Does a Child Truly Take Away from the READING LAB?
A child:
- is able to concentrate for longer periods
- understands the story and its connections
- can name emotions
- reflects on what they hear
These are foundations for successful learning and healthy relationships.
READING LAB as a Thoughtfully Designed Educational Model
READING LAB is a systematic model for developing early reading literacy for children aged 2 to 6. It is based on findings from developmental psychology, neuroscience, and educational research.
We do not teach children to read earlier.
We teach them to understand content, meaning, and emotions carried by text.
How Does the READING LAB Work in Everyday Practice?
The READING LAB takes place regularly every Monday morning and always follows the same structure:
- tuning in and calming down
- continuous reading or storytelling
- working with meaning (what happened, why, how the characters felt)
- transferring the story into the child’s reality
- browsing the book, describing pictures, searching for similarities and differences
- comparing the story with our world, reality, and family
- discussing characters, good and evil, cause and effect
No testing.
No pressure.
No performance.
Connection to Future Skills
The READING LAB develops:
- the ability to learn in depth
- critical thinking
- empathy and social intelligence
- inner calm and self-regulation
These skills are transferable to all areas of life.
The Musical Part of the READING LAB
The READING LAB also includes a musical component that naturally supports concentration, comprehension, and language development. Through singing, movement, rhythm, and working with simple musical instruments, children learn to perceive structure, tempo, and emotions – the same skills that are essential for deep understanding of text and speech.
Music develops auditory perception, speech rhythm, memory, and listening skills, while also helping children release tension and naturally regain focus. Thanks to the connection between music, movement, and story, children do not experience learning as performance, but as a meaningful and joyful process.
Music teaches children to listen, perceive structure, and cooperate – skills that are essential not only for reading, but for future learning and communication.
A Word from the Director
“A child who learns to listen to a story will later learn to listen to the world. I consider the READING LAB to be one of the most important foundations of future learning.”
“PONNY KIDS and the READING LAB are designed for children whose parents want to develop depth rather than superficiality. For parents who understand that the ability to concentrate and comprehend is one of the most valuable skills in today’s fast-paced world. And also for those who are not looking for random activities, but for a kindergarten with a clear educational direction and a long-term vision.
I believe that a child who learns to listen, reflect on a story, and go deeper gains a solid foundation for the future – for learning, relationships, and a free life.”
